❤️ AIIMS Jammu performs first-ever TAVI surgery on 74-year-old patient
Samba/Vijaypur: AIIMS Jammu has successfully performed its first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) surgery, marking a significant achievement in advanced cardiac care in Jammu & Kashmir.
The procedure was performed on a 74-year-old patient suffering from severe Aortic Stenosis. Considering the patient’s condition, doctors opted for the minimally invasive TAVI procedure instead of conventional open-heart surgery.
Doctors said TAVI is an advanced technique in which an artificial heart valve is implanted through a catheter, avoiding the need for open-heart surgery. It is especially beneficial for elderly and high-risk patients.
The procedure was conducted under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
Since the launch of its Cath Lab, the Cardiology Department at AIIMS Jammu has successfully completed around 200 cardiac procedures so far.
