📰 Headline:Iran War Triggers Ink Crisis in Japan, Snack Companies Shift to Black & White Packaging
📄 Post Details:
Tokyo: The ongoing Iran conflict has now started affecting Japan’s markets and industries. Due to a shortage of raw materials used in printing ink, several famous Japanese snack companies are temporarily switching from colorful packaging to black-and-white wrappers.
Popular snack company Calbee announced that around 14 of its products, including its well-known potato chips, will now come in simple black-and-white packaging.
The crisis is linked to disruptions in oil and naphtha supply caused by tensions around the Hormuz Strait. Naphtha, a petroleum product, is an important raw material used in making printing ink, plastics, and synthetic rubber. Rising energy and logistics costs have also made ink production more expensive worldwide.
Experts believe the impact may not remain limited to snack packaging and could also affect industries like printing, plastics, packaging, and automobiles if the Middle East conflict continues for a longer period.
