Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation, the demand for traditional horse-drawn tongas has seen a revival in the border area of RS Pura.

Once a primary mode of travel between Jammu and Sialkot, tongas are now becoming an attraction for tourism and local short-distance transport. Locals are using them for short trips, while tourists are also enjoying this traditional ride.

According to tonga driver Baldev Singh, the region had a rich history of tonga transport before Partition, and efforts are now being made to revive this heritage. Drivers gather on weekends to keep the tradition alive.

Tourists believe the ride not only helps save fuel but also connects them with rural culture and heritage.
